Softskill b.ing: Transjakarta

Transjakarta

TransJakarta is a bus rapid transit (BRT) system in Jakarta. It was the first BRT system in Southern and Southeast Asia. TransJakarta was designed to provide Jakarta citizens with a fast public transportation system to help reduce rush hour traffic. The buses run in special lanes and ticket prices are subsidized by the regional government. TransJakarta there are several types. There was a yellow and red, some gray and some blue. Transjakarta logo is an eagle. Most people call it is a busway, but distinguished designation is transjakarta. TransJakarta has a special line is red. The path they should not be passed by another vehicle.

Each bus is equipped with an electronic bulletin board and stop notifying loudspeakers that will be passed immediately to the passengers in the two languages, namely Indonesian and English. TransJakarta Busway has a separated lane and station from the other vehicles, and supplemented with air conditioner making the trip by the bus more comfortable compared to the other buses.  The separated lane makes busway could avoid traffic jam as what usually happened everyday in Jakarta. There’re many tourism area that pass through TransJakarta Busway lane. Transjakarta provide free wifi. In addition to providing Internet network, TransJakarta has been providing free drinking water in some places. But it has been running for 3 months. Each bus is constructed with passengers' safety in mind. For example the body frame is constructed using Galvanyl (Zn - Fe Alloy), a strong and rust-resistant metal. There are also eight or ten glass-shattering hammers mounted on some of the window frames, and three emergency doors for fast evacuation during an emergency. There are also two fire extinguisher at the front and back of the buses.

The Mercedes-Benz OH and Hino RG air-conditioned buses are painted red and yellow, with a picture of a young Brahminy Kite, which looks very similar to a bald eagle grasping a tree branch with three snakefruit on it. The buses use special fuel which is (a mix of diesel and biodiesel). For Corridor 2 (bus colors: blue and white) and 3 (bus colors: yellow and red), the buses are CNG-fueled Daewoo buses imported from South Korea. Due to various coachbuilders being involved and design tweaks applied over time, the exterior and interior appearance, quality, and comfort varies between busses operating in the same corridor. The capacity of each bus is 30 seated and 55 standing passengers, though during rush hours these numbers are often exceeded by up to 80 passengers per bus. TransJakarta also operates Chinese-made Huanghai, Zhongtong, Ankai, local-made Komodo and Inobus articulated buses on long and straight corridors, such as Corridor 5. The passenger doors are higher than on normal buses so that passengers can only board from designated shelters. The doors employ automated folding mechanisms which can be manually controlled by the driver. Because the normal folding doors cannot open properly when the bus is overcrowded, buses on corridors II and III use sliding doors in order to accommodate the surge of passengers during rush hours.

Protective full-height acrylic glass barriers are installed behind passenger seats close to the sliding door mechanism. Seats in all buses face the aisle to optimize passengers' movement during rush hours. Corridor 1 buses use comfortable cushioned bus seats, the buses from subsequent corridors have less cushioned, hence less comfortable, seats. Each bus is equipped with an electronic board and speakers that announce the name of shelters in two languages, Indonesian and English. Each bus is also equipped with a bi-directional radio transceiver to allow the driver to provide and recaive updated information regarding traffic jams, road accidents or lost items. To keep the air fresh, especially during rush hours each bus is equipped with automatic air freshener dispensers which periodically spray car fragrance. In August 2011, TransJakarta operator has installed cameras on one bus for a trial period. The plan is to install 4 cameras on all buses gradually in efforts to improve services such as to inform passengers waiting for buses about how crowded approaching buses are and prevent sexual harassment on its service.

TOEIC
The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is "an English language test designed specifically to measure the everyday English skills of people working in an international environment."
There are different forms of the exam: The TOEIC Listening & Reading Test consists of two equally graded tests of comprehension assessment activities totaling a possible 990 score; the newer TOEIC Speaking & Writing Test comprises tests of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, overall coherence, and structure (organization of sentences) totaling a possible 400 score.

TOEIC Speaking & Writing Test
The TOEIC Speaking & Writing Test was introduced in 2006. Test takers receive separate scores for each of the two tests, or can take the Speaking test without taking the Writing test. The Speaking test assesses pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and fluency, while the Writing test examines vocabulary, grammar, and overall coherence and organization. The tests are designed to reflect actual English usage in the workplace, though they do not require any knowledge of specialized business terms. The TOEIC Speaking Test takes approximately 20 minutes to complete; the TOEIC writing test lasts approximately 60 minutes. Each test has a score range between 0-200, with test takers grouped into eight proficiency levels.

History
The US-based Educational Testing Service (ETS) developed the TOEIC test to measure achievement in using English in a business setting. Yasuo Kitaoka was the central figure of the Japanese team that conceived the basic idea of the TOEIC test.
According to an Aug. 11, 2009 Japan Times article, "In the 1970s, Kitaoka began negotiating with ETS to create a new test of English communication for use in Japan. ETS responded that it required a nonprofit organization to work with as their partner. Kitaoka tried to enlist the help of the Ministry of Education, but their bureaucrats did not see the need for a new test to compete with the STEP Eiken, an English test already backed by the ministry. To overcome this opposition, Kitaoka received help from his friend, Yaeji Watanabe. Watanabe's influence as a retired high-ranking bureaucrat from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (renamed the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, or METI) proved crucial to TOEIC's establishment.
Watanabe had remained in contact with his old ministry while working on the board of directors for the World Economic Information Services (WEIS) and as chairman of the Japan-China Economic Association, both public-interest corporations operating under MITI. Watanabe declined an interview request, but his memoirs describe how he overcame Ministry of Education opposition to the TOEIC by taking cover "behind the ministry of trade shield." Watanabe convinced his old ministry it should play the lead role in establishing a new English test, and formed a TOEIC Steering Committee under the WEIS umbrella. Members of the committee included other retired MITI bureaucrats and influential business leaders.
Government support secured, ETS began developing the test in 1977. In 1979, English learners in Japan filled in the first of many TOEIC multiple-choice answer forms."

ETS's major competitors are Cambridge University, which administers the IELTS, FCE, CAE, and CPE and Trinity College London, which administers GESE and ISE exams.

TOEFL
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is used to evaluate the English proficiency of students whose first language is not English.  It evaluates the student’s knowledge of English at the intermediate to advanced levels of English language studies.
The Institutional TOEFL is on a paper/pencil format and has three multiple-choice sections:
§ Listening Comprehension – this section measures the ability to understand English as it is spoken in the United States.
§ Structure and Written Expression – this section measures the ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English.
§ Reading Comprehension – this section measures the ability to understand non-technical reading matter.
The approximate time for the TOEFL test is 2.5 hours.
Who is required to take the TOEFL Test?
The Office of Admissions and Recruitment will determine if you are required to take the TOEFL.  The Office of Admissions and Recruitment usually recommends that International students who are comfortable with English take the TOEFL test.  The Office of Graduate Student Services will determine which tests you need to take for admission to Graduate School.

History
In 1962, a national council made up of representatives of thirty government and private organizations was formed to address the problem of ensuring English language proficiency for non-native speakers wishing to study at U.S. universities. This council recommended the development and administration of the TOEFL exam for the 1963-1964 time frame.
The test was originally developed at the Center for Applied Linguistics under the direction of Stanford University applied linguistics professor Dr. Charles A. Ferguson.
The TOEFL test was first administered in 1964 by the Modern Language Association financed by grants from the Ford Foundation and Danforth Foundation.
In 1965, The College Board and ETS jointly assumed responsibility for the continuation of the TOEFL testing program. In 1973, a cooperative arrangement was made between ETS, The College Board, and the Graduate Record Examinationsboard of advisers to oversee and run the program. ETS was to administer the exam with the guidance of the TOEFL board.
To the present day, college admission criteria for international students who are Commonwealth of Nations nationals are exempted from taking the TOEFL exam - nations which are part of the Anglosphere (from Commonwealth realms to former British colonies e.g. Hong Kong SAR or former protectorates of the United States) where English is the de facto official language automatically grants a TOEFL exemption with some restrictions (e.g. residents of Quebec are required to take TOEFL while the rest of Canada is exempt).

TEFL

Defintion of TEFL
TEFL is the common abbreviation for Teaching English as a Foreign Language, which involves teaching students whose first language is not English. Students range in age from childhood to adult. EFL courses can take place in state schools, private schools or special EFL schools, and can be found in almost every country around the world. TEFL usually involves refining students' speaking and listening skills through exposure to native speakers of English who are qualified English teachers, or who have a qualification in TEFL teaching from an accredited TEFL training college.

TEFL Qualifications

  • o    TEFL qualifications include a bachelor of arts in English, and a secondary-level or above teaching qualification such as a teaching license from an accredited U.S. university or a post-graduate certificate in education from an accredited British university. University graduates who have not majored in English education can undertake a TEFL training course in order to qualify as a TEFL teacher.

TEFL Training
  • o    There are three TEFL qualifications recognized around the world: the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), the Trinity College (London) Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Cert TESOL), and the Trinity College (London) Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Trinity Dip TESOL).
  • For CELTA and Cert TESOL training, classes must take place at an accredited school. Courses range from five-week intensive to year-long programs. Each student must complete written assignments on specific language and adult teaching and learning topics. Their written assignments and classroom teaching skills will also be assessed by a college-appointed moderator.
  • For the Trinity Dip TESOL qualification, candidates must have completed two years of TEFL teaching in order to apply. Once the training commences, they must complete four hours of observed teaching, four assessment units and an independent project. All of these required components will be assessed by a Trinity College moderator.

TEFL Careers
  • o    TEFL teachers can become residential or non-residential teachers, assistant course directors, course directors, head teachers or owners of TEFL schools. TEFL teachers who wish to be promoted will often complete Trinity Dip TESOL training.

TEFL Job Opportunities
  • o    TEFL job opportunities for qualified TEFL teachers exist all over the world, for all ages of students from school-age to adult. Business English courses in schools, colleges and in businesses are also common in many countries.

TEFL Vacation Courses
  • o    In England, Ireland and the United States, many students over the age of 16 study EFL during the school holidays for one to twelve weeks, usually in a popular city like London, Dublin or New York. Some students choose to live in residential colleges. Other schools arrange classes during the day, and accommodation for the students with host families, with whom they practice their English while also learning about the culture of the country. The TEFL school will also schedule age-appropriate activities and sightseeing for the duration of the students' stay, which TEFL teachers will be expected to supervise or participate in.

TEFL Teaching Abroad
  • o    TEFL teachers taking up an overseas post should make sure they have a firm job offer complete with all salary, terms and benefits in writing, and that their round-trip travel expenses to and from the school are paid. They should also be certain their passport will not expire within the next six months, and that all the appropriate official work permits, sponsorship forms, visas and so on have been taken care of prior to departure.

About vacation

Vacation To Yogyakarta

A few years ago, i am going to Yogyakarta with my friends. The trip has spent time about 10 hours from Bekasi to Yogyakarta. First day in Jogja, I went to the temple of Borobudur. Me and my friends went there in the morning we went to Borobudur temple by private car. I had prepared everything before we went to Jogja. While we were driving, we get to see some beautiful scenery mountains, forests, and waterfalls as well as cars pass by. My friend and I arrived at the Borobudur Temple at 4:30 pm. There, I saw a lot of tourists. Borobudur temple is crowded on a holiday vacation. We returned at 22:30 at night and back to hotel. It was a very interesting holiday for me and my friends was happy.
Day two we go to the beach. The beach we visited is Parangtritis beach. The sun shine brightly and the scenery was very beautiful there. We felt the wind blew across to us. We also saw a lot of people in that beach. There were many birds flew in the sky. The first impression when I arrived in Parangtritis beach was very beautiful and very extraordinary. It was because the sea’s wave was so big and the sand on that beach was so white. That one the reason why i love beach. Then, when me and my friends saw those things, we run to that beach.

at Parangtritis Beach

Nevertheless, it was very hard for us when running. It was because we used sandals or shoes when we run on the sands. For that, we decided to put off our sandals and shoes to be put another area. After that, we run to the wave easily. We much taking a picture there. We riding ATV, and many activities at beach and i love that. Then, one thing that I wanted you to know was when you would visit this beach. You might not wear shirt or skirt (clothes) in green color. It was caused by the existence of myth in that area about the existence of Nyi Roro kidul, the master in that beach. That myth was about if there were people who would visit this beach, they were forbidden to wear clothes in green color, if those people opposed it. The people would get bad luck, or even that people would be lost in the sea and their bodies would not be found.
From the myth above, we were not brave to wear cloth in green one when we playing in that beach. Nevertheless, if there was anybody who wear the green, she/he changed into other colors. Tired of playing on the beach, we went looking for a fresh drink. We found coconut and we drink with coconut shells. In the night we go to the rainbow park. There so many kind of lanterns. Many colour, many shape and that’s very cute. There are also trampolines, mini tricycles, paddle boats, water balls, speed boat, car bombs, and many others. There is also a castle ghost. But we not get in. Because we wanted enjoy the night with pleasure, not fear.
In the last day, i was sad because the vacation will be over. But i shouldn’t be sad because i will go to shopping with friends. In Malioboro we bought many kind of souvenirs. And i’m not forget to bought some cute clothes in there. Finally all been bought and we all getting hungry. Along Malioboro street, there are many kind of culinary. But we chose to eat at Angkringan Lik Man. There are a variety of food and drinks. Like kopi joss and sego kucing. After dinner, we talked until midnight. We talking about our holidays, we laugh, happy, and be a fun experience.
